Darwin Awards big in India when taking selfies

Darwin's Law was proven again as a moron from India tried to take a selfie with an injured Asiatic black bear.

Citing forest department officials, the Hindustan Times [pronounced "Dimes" if you're from Hindustan] said the man was attacked by the bear in the eastern Indian state of Odisha just as the man told the bear to say "Paneer," [a form of tofu-like firm cheese used in making palak paneer, a delicious Indian dish].

The victim's fellow SUV passengers warned him not to approach the bear, Prabhu Bhatara didn't listen. He never listened. He got too close to the bear, which then began chasing him all over the place, and fatally mauled him right before he was able to snap what would have been a unique, award-winning selfie.

Bhatara had been returning from a wedding but he "died on the spot," a forest ranger told the Hindustan Times

A stray dog tried to intervene and attacked the bear as it was mauling the Darwin's Law subject, but was unable to save him.

After they tranquilized the bear, officials were able to retrieve Bhatara's body and photo-less cell phone.

A number of selfie-related deaths have occurred over the years, many of which were in India, some of which were due to that guy under the car seat known as "Mayhem," who pretends to be a cell phone dropped by the driver who reaches down to get it while traveling 80 miles an hour into a truck.

Last year, a young Darwin graduate in Odisha's Rourkela district was trampled to death by an elephant while he was trying to get a selfie with the animal.

You cannot make this stuff up.
