Qatar is a tiny nation located on the Persian Gulf and is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, per capita, with a population of about 2.3 million. They're swimming in oil and natural gas reserves.
But they continue to support terrorist groups for what they believe is their religious obligation.
While we don't expect them to fight directly against the jihad, we certainly don't want them helping out the lunatics who kill infidels as their national pastime. This little country is putting our Arab allies and Israel in danger with their bankrolling of terrorists. What's more, they incite violence and hate via their state-funded Al [Gore] Jazeera TV network and collaborating with the Islamic Republic of Iran, a country that hates the United States even more than liberals.
Since this past June Saudi Arabia and its Persian Gulf allies have blockaded Qatar because it poses an enormous danger to the region. They have closed the Saudi border with Qatar and prevent cargo ships and aircraft from docking and landing there.
In the most bizarre circumstance, we have a military base there while our host sends money to kill us. This worked well for the Obama administration, and the Trump administration doesn't seem to have a problem with this picture either. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the U.S. Central Command operates the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which houses about 10,000 U.S., British and other allied troops. The base also plays a key role in our air operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.
However, instead of using the base for our inaction with Qatar, we should use it as leverage and lay our chips on the table: if Qatar continues doing what it's doing, we will not tolerate it.
And we will leave and let them fend for themselves.
