Freedom of Tweeting challenged

Matthew Doyle, a 46-year-old British man, was arrested for exercising what we here in the USA call his First Amendment rights, specifically, his freedom of speech.

Doyle was obviously upset with the Brussels attack on "soft targets" by Muslim jihadists. He is in custody and is being questioned by police. He was arrested at his home in Croydon "on suspicion of inciting racial hatred on social media," said the police.

According to reports, Doyle described on Twitter how he confronted a Muslim woman in south London. He asked her to explain the Brussels attack and she replied that the attack had nothing to do with her. Doyle said that it was "a mealy mouthed response."

Some folks on Twitter who were not directly affected by Islamic jihad mocked Doyle's tweets; others, not so much.

Unfortunately, Doyle may have used a commonly used anti-Muslim slogan in subsequent tweets.

The one thing the public will hopefully learn from this is that Islam is not a race, it's an ideology, a belief system. By questioning an ideology, you cannot insult it. Ideologies are not thinking, feeling entities, they are not living organisms, therefore, you cannot insult Islam.

Doyle's tweets have since been deleted and he has not been charged.

Gee, is it any wonder why we are incrementally losing our freedoms?
