ABC News president Kim Godwin steps down

ABC News President Kim Godwin announced her departure from the network on Sunday. Godwin, who ABC News swears was not a DEI hire, was being carefully scrutinized because of her poor job performance, after being stripped of much of her power. [H/T NY Post.]

“I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism,” Godwin said in a memo to staff, in an attempt to convince them and the public that it was her decision to leave.

“Over the years, hundreds of you have sent emails, texts, and made phone calls that have lifted my heart. In this consequential election year, as we look to the months ahead, the importance of what we do cannot be overstated. Remember, there is joy in journalism,” and if it bleeds, it leads.

Godwin mentioned many of ABC News’s accomplishments during her tenure.

“I leave with my head held high and wish the entire team continued success,” she said, sounding curiously high.

However, head high or not, Godwin was effectively demoted in February when Disney, which owns ABC News and Joe Biden, underwent restructuring. Her riding off into the proverbial sunset comes as Disney

Godwin’s departure comes as Disney corporate overlords have been closely reviewing her leadership or lack thereof, and the writing was on the wall. Rather than getting the shaft, she left.

Debra O’Connell, who was promoted to a leadership position that puts ABC News under her purview, was reportedly shocked by Godwin’s mismanagement of the money-making division that includes “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight, the outlet reported.

So now that Godwin is back out on the job market, perhaps she can take over Karine Jean-Pierre's position as the administration's note reader.
