Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) said that he "will not assist" in any extradition request of former President Donald Trump, made by political activist and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg under "questionable circumstances." DeSantis called the charges against Trump "un-American" and a "weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda."
And of course there is no doubt DeSantis is correct.
Trump. the 2024 GOP presidential candidate, was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on Thursday after a years-long witch hunt by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Bragg had bragged when he became New York's AG that he would go after Trump, which is the definition of judicial weaponization: you have a person and look for a crime.
"The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head," DeSantis tweeted Thursday. "It is un-American."
"The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct," DeSantis said. "Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent."
There should be consequences for people who abuse their position to further their own needs, and it seems very likely that Bragg has a personal political agenda--perhaps he plans to run for governor, or senator. It isn't as if he really cares about law and order when you look at the crime in his state.
DeSantis continued: "Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda."
Trump's primary residence is his property at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump was indicted as part of the Manhattan DA Office years-long investigation, possibly for hush money payments, in spite of the fact that Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, admitted to making the payment out of his own pocket, and Trump wasn't aware of it. This included the $130,000 Cohen made to Stephanie Clifford, a porn performer who goes by the name Stormy Daniels. It also included payment to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, Fox News Digital reported.
Bragg has been investigating Trump for hush money payments made leading up to the 2016 presidential election and disregarded facts over his hatred for the bad orange man. The hush money payments made to both women were initially revealed and reported by Fox News in 2018 and were investigated by the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of New York [aka Brooklyn] and by the Federal Election Commission.

Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York decided not to charge Trump in the Stormy Daniels payments in 2019, in spite of Cohen, a convicted liar, implicating him as part of his plea deal. The FEC also abandoned the investigation in 2021 due to lack of evidence, but Bragg, that intrepid bag of adipose tissue, didn't let anything stop him in his quest for fame and advancement.
America is in trouble and that is not hyperbole.
