"It was perhaps the toughest day in my life," 'NBC's Nightly News' ace reporter Brian Williams began. "I was the first to realize that the horrific explosion wasn't Michael Moore passing gas; it was the distinct sound of an airliner hitting the building next to the one I was in on that spectacularly clear day on September 11th, 2001.
"I was in the South Tower when the plane struck the North Tower. I saw the smoke belching out through the windows above my location across the way and I knew I had to act quickly. 'Run!' I screamed as calmly as I could, but nobody responded. The crowd of people just walked over to the windows and looked up at the devastation, not knowing what had happened.
"But I knew. I knew this was a terrorist attack because I was a Middletown Township firefighter and drew on that experience to make the call. Instantly, I went into "save lives mode."
As he spoke, a tear meandered along the side of his crooked nose, a nose that broke when Williams played football at Mater Dei High School in New Jersey in a game that he won almost single-handedly by scoring "about seven touchdowns," he explained.
"After the second plane hit our building, only then did people in the office take me seriously. A guy named Mike something or other, yelled, 'Save us, Brian!' and he and his colleagues followed me down the stairs as I led seven hundred souls to safety.
"But I don't want anyone to sing me praises or pat me on the back. I just did what the good Lord intended for me to do here on Earth. To make a difference and to be all that I can be."
And if you believe this story, then you might also believe that chickens have lips.
Have a blessed, peaceful, and safe day.
