A Washington-based potato chip company known as "Hawaiian" brand potato chips is being sued over its name because the chips are not actually made in Hawaii, but in Washington state where, as I've said, it is based.
People who eat the chips [aka: consumers] have filed a class-action lawsuit and hope to make four, maybe five dollars each while putting the company out of business. They feel mortified.
Here they were, thinking they were getting a taste of the Big Island or maybe even Mona Loa. But the chips are just like Washington state chips--potato, salt, whatever.
Mike Maeda of Honolulu and Iliana Sanchez of Los Angeles filed the suit against Pinnacle Foods Inc. last month, accusing the parent company of false and deceptive advertising.
Maeda and Sanchez are also hoping to capitalize on several other lawsuits.
The first being an LA joint known as "Pizza Heaven." The pair claim that the establishment does not represent heaven, nor what pizza would taste like if it came from there, and besides, this cannot be known with certainty while being here on earth.
The other establishment the couple is going after in a lawsuit is a furniture company known as "Sofa King."
They say the name, "Sofa King," sounds crude when said quickly, and while they are not expecting to make any money on the lawsuit, they feel it's their moral obligation to challenge the company's name.
This is a developing satire and more is likely to follow.
