4th Russian General killed in Ukraine war

According to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, another Russian general has bitten the dust in the midst of the fighting between the Russian invaders and the brave Ukrainians.

Ukrainian sources said the general who was killed on Tuesday was Oleg Mityaev.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made the announcement without naming Mityaev, but an advisor to Ukraine's interior ministry announced that Maj. Gen. Mityaev did indeed get himself killed by the Azov Battalion.

It went down near Mariupol, Ukrainian media reported.

Mityaev is allegedly the fourth general killed, which is a head-scratcher. Why would a general be so close to actual combat in the front line rather than being in the safety of the rear ordering younger men to risk their lives?

Some military analysts believe there are about 20 generals leading the invasion of Ukraine, and if the reports are true, this means that about 20 percent of them have been killed. So imagine the number of Russian troops allegedly being killed if the statistical differentiation is the same for this war.

"I don't think this is an accident. One is an accident, but this many is targeted," Rita Konaev of Georgetown University told the BBC, evidently not aware that if the opportunity to kill an enemy general presents itself, it's the grand prize of war. She has likely never served in the military.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, a person within President Zelensky's inner circle said Ukraine had a military intelligence team dedicated to targeting Russia's officer class, which is a brilliant idea.

"They look for high profile generals, pilots, artillery commanders," the person told the newspaper.

Why in the hell wouldn't they? You cut off the head of the snake if you can, not the tail.

With Ukraine's military outnumbered, its targeting of high-level individuals could be an important part of the information war, according to Konaev.

And a part of the war, war.

"Assuming there is an element of targeting, this feeds Ukraine's own morale. There is the element of being victorious. It is inspiring." And it's strategic too.
