Real Clear Investigations released a new report on Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd, the killer of Ashli Babbitt on the Jan. 6 Capitol riots that killed nobody but Ashli Babbitt.
Ms. Babbitt was an Air Force veteran and was unarmed and among those who illegally entered the U.S. Capitol that day. She was killed when Byrd fired into the approaching mob.
The new report, by RCI on Tuesday, claims that Byrd was cleared of all wrongdoing without ever having been interviewed by investigators. Not one interview after he shot and killed an unarmed woman. Let that sink it because if it's true, the corruption in federal law enforcement is even worse than we already know.
The RCI cited “several sources and documents” it said it had reviewed and Terry Roberts, the Babbitt family attorney, also confirmed their findings.
“He didn’t provide any statement to investigators and they didn’t push him to make a statement,” Roberts said. “It’s astonishing how skimpy his investigative file is.”
Among the documents reviewed by RCI was a January 2021 internal affairs report that showed Byrd “declined to provide a statement.” In other words, Byrd refused to sing and the feds didn't seem to care.
A Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman confirmed the story as well, noting that Byrd had refused to cooperate with both the department’s internal affairs unit and the FBI.
“MPD did not formally interview Lt. Byrd,” said Kristen Metzger, deputy communications director for the MPD. She added that “He didn’t give a statement while under the U.S. Attorney’s Office investigation.”
“MPD did not formally interview Lt. Byrd,” said Kristen Metzger, deputy communications director for the MPD. She added that “He didn’t give a statement while under the U.S. Attorney’s Office investigation.”
But that didn't matter. Even though Byrd wasn't even interviewed at all, in April, the DOJ announced that no charges would be brought against him.
Then, in August, the DOJ Office of Professional Responsibility [apparently an oxymoron[ revealed that there was an internal investigation into the shooting, which found the incompetent cop's actions to have been “lawful and within Department policy.”
This can only mean that it is lawful to shoot an unarmed person without warning who poses no impending threat. Video evidence kind of implies that Byrd is a coward who was frightened and fired his weapon. His luck is that he's Black and the victim is White.

There is no way Byrd should not have been indicted for what he did. How can he honestly justify shooting Babbitt?
Anyone with a functional cortex knows that if the races of Byrd and Babbitt were reversed, this would have been an entirely different outcome. Justice was not served and that's almost as bad a crime as Byrd's.
