NY City ISIS supporter gets 22 years in the slammer

"See, my nose is clean"
Sajmir Alimehmeti [his friends call him "Mohammed"] is a 26-year-old U.S. citizen who had a cache of weapons and an ISIS flag in his New York City apartment and planned to go all out jihad.

Fortunately Alimehmeti isn't very bright and was caught by authorities before he was able to do any damage. He pleaded guilty to providing material support to ISIS, the Department of Justice announced.

The jihadi is an Albanian turned American citizen. He was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer who referred to the lad as a "ticking time bomb," and said his conduct was "terrifying."

Alimehmeti, who lives in the Bronx, was given 22 years in prison where he is expected to do his level best to convert his colleague inmates to the religion of peace.

Alimehmeti was a former plumbing assistant who had studied funeral services, which could have been lucrative in terms of his plans. [In fact, he would have been like the guy who owns a tire repair shop and gives cars flat tires to get the business.]

He was arrested in May 2016 on evidence assembled over eight months by two undercover New York City police officers and an undercover FBI employee posing as ISIS recruits.

The jihadi began collecting weapons such as combat knives that could be used in a "lone-wolf" style terrorist attack, investigators said. Perhaps this is why he chose to live in the U.S. instead of London, where knives are banned by the mayor, Sadiq Khan.

Arresting agents reported recovering terrorist propaganda, the flag and images of jihadist fighters to which Alimehmeti is believed to have used as a sexual stimulant.

Alimehmeti had gone overseas to support ISIS’ terror jihad by buying military-grade weapons and helping another young jihadi get travel documents, equipment and encryption technology to fight with the group in Syria, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said in a news release.

"Even after his incarceration, Alimehmeti continued his supportive conduct for ISIS by working with convicted Chelsea bomber Ahmad Khan Rahimi, to distribute ISIS propaganda in prison," Berman said.

In addition to 22 years in prison, Alimehmeti also was sentenced to five years supervised release, the DOJ said. He will be 46 when he gets out, unless the Democrats win in 2020 and he gets a presidential pardon.
