Patrick J. Lynch makes "gun-finger" and liberals duck |
The delegates all voted together calling for Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo to fire both officials in the event that they do not resign immediately, which they never will.
Under New York law, the governor is permitted to remove mayors and police commissioners, but to get Gov. Andrew Cuomo to act responsibly is like asking Kim Jong Un to give up his dictatorship.
The resolution was probably inspired by the firing of Daniel Pantaleo, an officer accused of killing Eric Garner in 2014, in spite of Garner's 300 pounds and asthmatic condition. The pressure was on de Blasio and O'Neill when it was found that Pantaleo wouldn't be charged, based on visual evidence.
Despite Pantaleo’s being let off the hook legally, an administrative judge recommended on August 2 that he be fired. O’Neill, an obvious political hack, cowardly obliged and terminated Pantaleo’s employment August 19.
“Police Commissioner O’Neill has made his choice: he has chosen politics and his own self-interest over the police officers he claims to lead,” PBA President Patrick J. Lynch said in the statement, which was posted on Twitter. “He has chosen to cringe in fear of the anti-police extremists, rather than standing up for New Yorkers who want a functioning police department, with cops who are empowered to protect them and their families.
“With this decision, Commissioner O’Neill has opened the door for politicians to dictate the outcome of every single NYPD disciplinary proceeding, without any regard for the facts of the case or police officers’ due process rights.”
"The damage is already done. The NYPD will remain rudderless and frozen, and Commissioner O’Neill will never be able to bring it back. Now it is time for every PO in this city to make their own choice."
While that was an apparent reference to the mayor, de Blasio was also criticized explicitly.
“For years, Mayor de Blasio has demonized police officers and undermined our efforts to protect our city,” Lynch said in a statement after the vote was taken.
It’s clear that de Blasio has been more concerned with socialism while he's near the very bottom of the 2020 Democratic primary lineup, than he is in being a mayor. So he is greatly disliked by his city, the governor of his state, and most Americans. The best thing he could do would be to drop out of the 2020 campaign, roll up his worker sleeves, and work at being a better mayor rather than an incompetent Commie.
Arrests are down in the city and this is being attributed to the "Pantaleo Effect."
Let's hope de Blasio and O'Neill are gone soon.
