President Trump will be giving an address at 4 p.m. today--just minutes from now and I'll be real-time blogging. The topic, they say, will be on border security and perhaps the temporary government shutdown, but we'll see in a few minutes [hopefully] what he's going to say. I'm watching on Fox News because they will cover it in full, but I don't trust the other networks to do the same.
Fox says Trump will give the Democrats a deal that will give temporary legal status for DACA (Deferred Action for Child Arrivals) recipients.
4:07 Here we go:
Trump began with his announcement of a swearing in of 5 new US citizens. He made the point of welcoming legal Americans and that we, as a nation, do not discriminate about race or religion. "We are all equal, we are one team," he said, and added that people who come here should adopt our values.
He went on: "No progress has been made in immigration. . . there is a humanitarian crisis on our southern border." You know the issue of "crisis" is going to be disputed by the left, but it's beginning to look a lot like the country is seeing it as such after over 300 illegal aliens tunneled under the border and entered Yuma, Arizona.
One in three are sexually mistreated coming across the border, the President claims. Narcotics come in--meth, cocaine, fentanyl and heroin. He said 1 in 3 women are sexually assaulted coming across the border, but it isn't clear if this is factually correct. Also, he said that mothers are giving their girls birth control who attempt to cross the border, but this too has not been factually checked.
"The lack of border control provides a gateway for criminals to enter the United States."
Got emotional at times, but Trump still sounds like he's making a speech.
Proposal is based on input from border agents. "They know what they're doing."
"Walls are not immoral. In fact they're the opposite--they protect people."
More money more agents more judges for the almost 900,000 cases. Still wants the $5.7 billion.
President Trump wants a see-through steel barrier. He says it will help stop illegal immigration and safely redirect commerce to our ports of entry. Jim Acosta apparently agrees with this point.
1. Three years of legislative relief for 700,000 DACA recipients who will also be provided with Social Security numbers and work permits.
2. Three year extension of Protective Status or TPS.
McConnell will bring bill to the Senate floor next week, although it will likely not pass, but it will make Democrats look like they don't want to compromise.
4:20 p.m. finished.
Obviously, Trump is trying to find a middle ground for compromise but the left still wants a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and will likely not accept any deal at this time.
The left wants Trump to end the partial government shutdown before they're willing to negotiate, but if he does, they will never go along with a wall. Never. This is typically how they operate.
Trump offered weekly bipartisan meetings to deal with the immigration situation. This is the president extending an olive branch to the Democrats, but it appears that these Democrats don't like olives. The left doesn't want to negotiate in any form until the partial government shutdown is ended.
Will 2019 be the year you follow Brain Flushings and have a few laughs while you get a conservative viewpoint? Let's hope so, because politics is the new NFL without the mindless kneeling and this blog will both inform you and hopefully entertain you bigly.
