The mother was identified as Tonya Jennings and she told KVUE TV in Austin that she was shocked when her daughter showed her the assignment. The assignment was part of a Texas history lesson regarding the Civil War and the role slavery played in the war.
"There's nothing about slavery that I would want any child, regardless of color, to have to relive.
But the young girl handed in photos of slaves having nothing to do with the Civil War. Modern day slaves, women trapped in burkas in Islam, men beaten by their Muslim masters in Saudi Arabia. The ongoing slave trade that we pretend does not exist.
Her photos were a statement of the West's complicity in slavery that goes on even today, right under our noses.
The Civil War was a horrible time for the country, but we have come a long way. No other country on Earth comes close to the providing the civil rights our citizens enjoy, in spite of the false narratives we hear from the left.
