Rome -- A gondolier who became famous ten years ago for being the first woman to become Venice's first woman gondolier in a male-dominated profession, told the truth about himself.
Yes, she's a dude.
Alex Hai spoke in a lengthy interview with Radiolab on Wednesday of Facebook.
"It is inaccurate to refer to me as 'she' or 'Alexandra' for any reason," he wrote.
In 2007, Hai had a lengthy court battle to become the first official female gondolier to row unsuspecting tourists around Venice.
The man said in a Facebook post that he had mastered rowing "while in the body of a woman." But added that he was not a woman "and the struggle of feminism is not my personal struggle. I simply want to do the work I'm passionate about."
So Hai lied about his gender and admits he still pees from the vertical. Hopefully not into the canal.
