An American Fairy Tale

Once upon a time there was a free, democratic country, where people had the ability to create their own destinies, based on their innate abilities and work ethic.  The people in this wonderful country even got to select who would lead their government, and the purpose of this government was to serve the people, not the other way around.

Some of the wonderful premises of this amazing country were depicted in two of their founding documents called The Bill of Rights and the Constitution.  They made it clear that people have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They also have the right to a fair and speedy trial by the laws of the land, and one of the important precepts of the law was that a man is considered innocent until proven guilty. These concepts were written a long time ago and sometimes people forgot about them, and this was very sad. Imagine that concept: a man is considered innocent until proven guilty-wow.

The way the people got to choose their government was by voting for the candidate they liked in something called an election. With elections, every person, rich or poor, would have only one vote for the person they believed would best represent their beliefs. This form of government is called a republic, and the political parties of this country were the Republicans, and the Democrats.  The Legislature, Executive, and Judicial branches formed this government and they watched over each other to ensure that no one person or branch of government could take over control of this great nation.

The Republicans liked the way the Founding Fathers constructed the government, and did not want to change the basic beliefs the founding fathers conceived because it made the country the richest, fairest, and strongest nation in the world. But even more than this, the country was also the most moral, ethical, and creative nation in the world, and all other countries in the West, wanted to be like it and were greatly influenced by the clothing, music, and creative styles of the people.

The Democrats, on the other hand, wanted the government to have a much bigger role in the lives of the people, and wanted to constantly reshape the government. These Democrats called themselves liberals, and while they started out seeming to care for everyone, it became apparent that they did not like successful people because they did not depend upon the government for their success. Democrats acted as if the original government was imperfect and needed to change so that it fit their concept of perfection. Their concept of a perfect government was one that was big enough to take care of all of its members. There should be no poor people, they felt, and if someone was poor, then the rich people had the duty to give them a “fair share” of their money rather than encouraging their individual success. In fact, individuality was frowned upon by them. So, if the Democrat’s slogan was “Yes We Can,” then the Republican’s slogan was “Yes I Can.”

The worst thing the people of this mythical country, a country that came into being once upon a time, had done, was to allow the media to become so powerful, so influential, that it could dictate the political future of the nation.  The media could even convict a man of something that was not proven in a court of law, just by the way it presented its story. This was called 'media bias' and it happened frequently.  So the idea of someone being innocent until proven guilty no longer meant anything and the media got rid of a man who was running for that branch of government called the Executive branch. Interestingly, the media in this country also protected people it wanted in office, so when a liberal was accused of the same type of offense that a conservative was accused of, they gave the story 'no legs' by not reporting it, or by reporting it favorably of their person they wanted to protect.

Classic values of allegiance, God, family, and country, started to become obsolete. The liberals wanted to get rid of them. Things deteriorated so badly that liberals got the government to agree that it was a woman's right to kill her baby even if the reason was due to the inconvenience of having a child at that time in her life. The baby to be born had no rights as far as liberals were concerned. Life lost some of its value, people felt.

And they lived unhappily ever after.
